In 1998, through consultation with Rowan University Education Department, Camden's Promise Charter School, San Miguel School, parents, teachers, and concerned community members met to develop a new and innovative high school for the city of Camden. Through their work, Camden Academy Charter High School was born. It is the hope of the founders that this school will lead students through the next step of their education into a life full of promise.

Learning Community
Camden Academy Charter High School is a learning community in which all stakeholders are engaged in a dynamic process of learning. With the assistance of Rowan University, a laboratory school environment has been created to ensure that the faculty is developed professionally and utilize innovative teaching and assessment strategies.

The Academy Model
Camden Academy is similar in many ways to a college or University. Students can choose their course of study. They can learn based on their interest. Students can choose to study in majors of either Business or Science. Rigorous graduation requirements will be maintained in which a state endorsed diploma will be issued.

Academy Minor
Camden Academy utilizes a 185-day school year. Five days of each year will be devoted to an extended learning experience known as an Academy Minor. These Minors provide for additional opportunities for students to work in teams, participate in problem solving, carry out extended projects, and utilize self-management and self-assessment strategies.

Guidance
The small school environment of Camden Academy allows its faculty to foster a strong relationship with its students. This relationship helps students in making personal and/or career decisions. Guidance interviews are required for all students with their families throughout the year to schedule upcoming classes and post-Academy life.
